A laboratory information system that follows every sample

Tests ordered in the consultation arrive on the lab worklist with their charge. The lab collects and labels the sample, enters and validates results, and the clinician sees them in the workspace as soon as they are released.

The lab worklist with a sample number field, the To collect, In progress, To validate and Released today lists, and requests grouped by section

What it does

From the order to the report

Orders with their charge

A test ordered in the consultation creates the lab request and its charge together. Nobody has to remember to bill.

Payment and approval gate

Where the facility requires it, a request waits for payment or SHA approval, in the same words for reception, lab and clinician.

Collection and barcode labels

Collecting prints a barcode label per sample, with a sample number from your facility's sequence and the collection time.

A worklist by section

To collect, in progress, to validate and released today, longest wait first. Scan a sample to open it.

Result entry and validation

Ranges for the patient's age and sex beside each field, H, L, HH and LL flags, and validation as a separate step.

Critical-value alerts

A critical result notifies the ordering clinician straight away and stays on screen until it is acknowledged.

Results the clinician can rely on

Only validated results reach the chart. Where your lab wants two-stage validation, technical and clinical validation are both recorded with who and when.

  • Part-finished entry saves, and nothing reaches the chart until it is validated
  • The person who entered a result can be kept from validating it
  • Reports print on A4 or A5 with ranges, units and who validated them
  • Cancelling before collection reverses the charge
Your rangesReference and critical ranges come from your catalogue, checked by a second person.
Versioned resultsCorrections keep the earlier version in the history.

Questions

Laboratory questions

Can it connect to our lab analyzers?

Not yet. Results are entered by hand today. Connecting analyzers is planned for a later phase.

Where do the reference ranges come from?

From your own test catalogue. Your clinical lead enters them and a second person approves them. None are shipped with the system, and a test without a range says "No range set".

What happens when a result is critical?

The ordering clinician is notified at once, wherever they are in the app, and must acknowledge it. Until someone does, the result stays pinned on the lab's worklist.

Can a released result be corrected?

Yes, by a new version with a reason. The earlier version stays in the history, and a result against the wrong patient is marked entered in error, never deleted.
